Gretchen Penney
We needed a quick portrait done of the local AIA chapter head for the magazine. I wanted to be in and out and done quickly because Gretchen has a family and I had to shoot her at her lovely home around dinner time. Who wants a photographer coming to the house when you’re trying to get your three piece and a biscuit on? Anyways, like I said the house is pretty much amazing (she is an architect after all) and it was full of modern paintings and sculpture. Museum like, but homey and lived in. She seemed a bit nervous at first so I told her to sit on the couch and relax so I could get the lighting levels correct. I popped off a few shots to test while she was talking about her kids and the smiles came naturally. This is by far my favorite shot. All in all, I was there for no more than 20 minutes. Faster than Dominos.

Formal dining room with crushed red marble plaster walls.

Wonderful shoot today all over Daniel Island and Patriots Point. Julie Righetti creates some of the most amazing “faux” finishes I’ve ever seen. I put faux in quotes because her plaster work is more akin to traditional Italian wall coverings than anything paint could ever achieve. She was kind enough to escort me around for the day and even carried my light stand around. When I can finally afford to buy a home, I’m going to consider taking out a second mortgage to have the walls treated. Click on the photo above for a whole gallery.
